Short films are where many of the greats – Martin Scorsese, Lynne Ramsay, Paul Thomas Anderson et al – got started. And for 20 years the London Short Film Festival has been a trusty showcase of new talents and small, but perfectly formed short films. This year’s shindig promises hundreds of British and international short films as well as a bunch of talks and workshops. Loads of great cinemas and arts spaces across the city will be getting involved to screen flicks like ‘London Lives’ at Curzon Soho, a collage of urban tales set in black cabs, Billingsgate Fish Market and Notting Hill’s Caribbean community. ‘Romantic Matinee’, a line-up of visual vignettes that explore everything from broken relationships to the kinky side of intimacy. Or, London queer feminist collective Club des Femmes’s curation of mind-expanding short films at Rio Cinema. See the full proramme on the London Short Film Festival site.
