Dating’s tough right now, right? Cosying up to someone that catches your eye in the local bar is totally out the window. And what happens when you swipe right? This clearly isn't the time for Netflix and chill, that’s for sure.

The current state of things has affected SpeedDater, a London-based singles events company that specialises in, yeah, you guessed it, speed dating – usually at fancy venues across town. But because they’re pretty smart people, they’ve found a brilliant way to keep helping Londoners meeting like-minded people. In fact, they’re billing themselves as the first in the UK to be doing this kind of thing, so you can consider their service nicely honed.

They’re taking what they do so well in real life and giving it the full lockdown treatment. That means guests will enter one of their bespoke ‘virtual’ bars online, where they’ll be welcomed by a host who will, you know, make them feel at home even though they are literally in their own home.

They’ll then be paired up with a fellow SpeedDater on a private video chat for three minutes, before switching to a new person. And if participants find someone with whom they connect? Well, if the feeling is mutual they can then correspond with that person via the SpeedDater website – all for free, and totally secure, of course. Welcome to the world of virtual speed dating.

There’s more good news, too. Not only is SpeedDater being socially responsible by bringing their expert matchmaking skills into people’s homes during this tough time, they’re also supporting the real heroes out there. Yep, they’re giving 30 percent of their revenue to the NHS. And if that’s not reason enough to get involved we don’t know what is.
