Dig out some flares and hit the disco at Walthamstow's Big Penny's NYE bash. As in previous years, it has turned back the clock and focused on a single year: this time it's the turn of 1979, when ABBA, the Bee Gees and Donna Summer filled the charts with dance bangers and post punk rebelled against synthetic sounds. So Big Penny is resurrecting the heady spirit of the late 1970s with a themed dance floor, a curling rink, a Sister Sledge tribute band, and a set from storied DJ Norman Jay, plus a £100 bar tab to win for the best costume (so dig out your polyester best). As usual, there’ll be plenty of Big Penny brews being poured, with the party going until 2am. Sounds like a banging way to say goodbye to the last 12 months.
