Time Out says

Despite strong competition from kittens, pandas, meerkats and baby sloths, penguins remain a firm favourite it the cute animal stakes. Which is why we’re particularly happy to alert you to a world-record attempt to stage the largest ever gathering of people dressed as penguins. It takes place in Docklands this Wednesday, followed by a 2k dash that you can choose to run, jog, walk – or waddle.

Penguin costumes for adults are included in the registration fee but kids’ suits aren’t. They will be sold at the event (ring Hannah Bosley on 7540 0230 or email hannahb@richardhouse.org.uk to reserve one) or children can make their own and enter a fancy-dress competition.

The Guinness World Record guidelines are non-negotiable though: penguin outfits must include a beak and webbed feet and have a solid black and white body suit or shirt and trousers. The breast area must be white and the arms black. So this not the occasion to freestyle. No need to squawk – or whatever it is that penguins do when they find their creative streak frustrated – though, the event is in aid of a very good cause. The money raised will go to Richard House Children’s Hospice.
