Outdoor crazy golf behind the People's Park Tavern, on the edge of Victoria Park.

The back half of The People's Park Tavern's vast beer garden has had a crazy makeover. Mini golf masters Plonk have turned it into a colourful nine-hole course featuring tiki huts, water features, maui heads and more fun obstacles to putt your ball past.

Stumbled upon this place one sunny Sunday afternoon. The back yard beer garden is fabulous as the small mini putt joins on to The People's Park Tavern. Child friendly pub and mini golf you'll love your afternoon here! I don't know if it's every Sunday but we had a beautiful band playing jazz also.

I must admit I had relatively low expectations when we first arrived. It looked pretty low key and simple, if in the nice location of the edge of Victoria Park.

All that went out the window when we started to play - the holes were fun and varied, despite the occasional leaf making things more difficult.

There are drinks holders so you can sip while you putt, and the drinks on offer at the pub are great.

It can get busy with children so book early or later if you want to avoid getting beaten by a six year old.

Everyone loves crazy golf. Or at least they should.

Plonk has the edge on their competitors, not only because they keep popping up all over London which gives us more reasons to give them business, but also because they create really fun, unique and dare I say it crazy (yes, I went there) courses.

Each hole has a creative homemade feel, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it will be easy - they can be extremely tricky to navigate and sometimes downright impossible.

This venue is a great choice for Plonk. The course is situated outside in their huge beer garden – a perfect location for a beautiful summer’s day.

The beer garden at People’s Park Tavern is legendary- many East Londoners’ birthday celebrations have occurred here across the warmer months. It’s a great vibe and so spacious- the ideal summer spot on a sun-drenched afternoon. The Plonk course was set up at the back of the garden, giving players just enough room to keep us occupied for about 40 minutes for a single round- at £5 for an adult to play, this is better value than many pop-up crazy golf courses around.

A bit wonky, a bit infuriating, the course will keep you on your toes- many aspects appear downright impossible, but provided everyone on your team gives in- and you don’t have Johnny-Competitive-Streak to contend with- it’s a solid round of fun. Everything is outside and exposed to the elements, so on a nice summer’s evening, it’s a perfect diversion. There are some fun features, including a loop-de-loop and multi-storey playing, but the course is missing some of the charm that it demonstrated when based in Efe’s Bar last year- in particular, there was no active volcano or golf/pool table hybrid, where the putter became a cue in play. I loved these quirky elements.

Despite this, the Plonk course is worth the putt and will keep you entertained between rounds of beer. For a fiver, that isn’t too shabby at all.
