Time Out says

Poetry International celebrates its fiftieth anniversary this year by kicking off the London Literature Festival 2017 at the Southbank Centre. The biennial festival, founded in 1967 by former poet laureate Ted Hughes, opens LLF with a weekend dedicated to poetry and spoken world from around the world. This year, the focus is on cultural sustainability. With over half of the world’s languages in danger of extinction, the festival will explore how poetry can rescue endangered languages and shape our changing world. Highlights include performances from UK-based poets in endangered languages, Birthday Letters: Poetry from 1967 to 2017, an event reflecting on how poetry has evolved over the last half century, and appearances from Caroline Bergvall, Anne Carson, Choman Hardi, Claudia Rankine, Arundhathi Subramaniam and Yang Lian.
