It was a wonderful Sunday afternoon spent on the banks overlooking the Thames to celebrate the Swedish tradition of known as ‘Kräftskiva’. The tables and stage were decked out to what could've been mistaken as a kids birthday party (for adults) on the first floor terrace of the Southbank Centre. All the guests wore beautifully designed crayfish hats provided, to get everyone in the spirit. Our host and entertainer for the afternoon was the talented Cecilia Stalin, a Swedish jazz singer, who was on hand to tend to our ears while we tucked into the deliciously fresh crayfish, cheese and crispbread on offer. It was great fun along with some Swedish drinking songs to add a bit of Nordic culture to our afternoons. My only gripe was that there wasn't enough time to leisurely sit and enjoy the crayfish, the tables were cleared promptly for the next event, so the end of the afternoon felt rushed and we found yourselves needing to scoff down the food. Despite this, I am looking forward to next years celebration. Skål! (Cheers in Swedish)
