V&A Friday Late x Shubbak: Body as a Vessel

Founded during the Arab Spring in 2011, Shubbak festival has become one of London’s largest celebrations of contemporary Arab and South West Asian & North African (SWANA) culture, spotlighting performances, exhibitions and community-driven events. To mark its 15-year anniversary, the organisers have curated this free museum late at the V&A. Featuring 12 artists, the one-night celebration will be exploring how we use our bodies through DJ sets drawing on wedding anthems from Sudan, the Sahel and the Horn of Africa by Basma, performances from brothers Hasan and Rami Nakhleh who are originally from the occupied Golan Heights, installations illuminating fashion, culture and community through the perspective of an Arab bride, as well as films, poetry and sensory experiences.
