What’s with the name, ‘100 Years of Rioja’?
If you’re someone who loves wine, then it’s likely you’ll recognise Rioja. It’s Spain’s leading wine region, producing world-class wines adored across the globe. This region in north-eastern Spain has been producing wine for many centuries, but it was 100 years ago that Rioja was officially recognised with Denominación de Origen (DO) status. That’s the quality stamp that helped put Rioja on the global wine map. Introducing ‘100 Years of Rioja’: a two-day festival that showcases the diversity and quality of Rioja wines.
Nice! So this is the festival’s debut year?
Exactly! We love a new festival – and this one promises to bring impeccable summer vibes. Located at the vibey Hackney Bridge, overlooking the River Lea in east London, 100 Years of Rioja will host wine tasting sessions, live music performances, expert masterclasses and more – all part of an immersive journey through 100 years of Rioja’s rich winemaking heritage.

Experts, you say?
TV wine icon Olly Smith will be hosting a lively tasting called ‘Rioja Through the Ages’, delving into Rioja’s rich history. You’ll learn about how Rioja’s wines have evolved over the last century, and find out just how diverse this region really is. Fun fact: while Rioja might be best known for its delicious red wines, it produces white, rosé and sparkling wines too! Not only that, you’ll have the rare chance to taste alongside a panel of top winemakers, who are flying in from Rioja for the event. These masters of their craft will guide you through six standout wines, sharing insights, stories, and what makes each bottle so unique.
And what if all this talk of wine has me thinking about food pairings?
You’re in luck! There’ll be plenty of pintxo-style street food to try, from sizzling Spanish paella and jamón to globally inspired bites. Each dish comes with a perfectly paired Rioja wine suggestion – cheers to that!
Speaking of food, top Spanish chefs José Pizarro and Omar Allibhoy will be hosting live cooking demos, bringing the bold flavours of Rioja to life.

Sounds delicious! Can I buy more wines to taste at the event?
Of course. There will be 50 different wines available to buy by the glass, bottle, or as 50ml samples. We’re talking everything from fruit-forward reds, barrel-aged classics, elegant whites and refreshing rosés.
I’m in! How do I get tickets?
You can buy your tickets to 100 Years of Rioja here. And here’s the best part: admission is just £10 (plus booking fee) and includes tokens worth the same amount, redeemable against 50ml Rioja wine samples. Premium tickets will get you access to the masterclasses, so check out the ticket page for full details.
100 Years of Rioja runs from July 19-20 at Hackney Bridge. Tickets start from £10.
