After the fiasco that was ‘Red or Black?’, Ant and Dec return to safer ground with capitalism-gone-crazy variety show ‘Saturday Night Takeaway’, where viewers don’t just watch the adverts but can win the featured products as well.
With the premium-rate phonelines scandal now a distant memory, it’s become the sort of show to turn Noel Edmonds green with envy: a house party complete with pranks, charitable initiatives and star turns, but in a bigger studio with lucrative commerical tie-ins wherever you look. And, rather than Frank Carson or Jimmy Cricket, the Geordies are able to rope in some truly stellar names to help out.
Daniel Radcliffe and Quentin Tarantino have debased themselves in previous series, and Robbie Williams launches this run. But whether or not he lets us, we’ll be seeking our entertainment elsewhere tonight.
