Sarah Lund would be solving a case like this with just a single, surly male underling for company. Unit A, on the other hand, is a team of all the talents – there’s a spoddy one, a hot one, a hard one, a boozy one and a vaguely maternal one, all of whom need at least a few minutes of backstory. It’s both a strength and a weakness of this Swedish detective series – the sheer profusion of rozzers can be slightly bewildering, but one gets the sense that it will improve as we get to know them better.
Tonight, the ‘Bad Blood’ mystery concludes in exciting style – much like an iceberg, the closer the gang gets, the bigger the implications appear to be. This case no longer seems to be about a single killer – but who is the other one and what is the connection between the two? A real grower and yet another worthy addition to BBC4’s Saturday night Scandi-slot.
