A feast of West Yorkshire Bhang-opera and lightbulb-screwing dance moves as Bradford city centre plays host to this one-off musical spectacular. Bizet’s themes have been tweaked slightly – this new production sees a movie-obsessed Bradford waitress excited by the arrival of an Indian movie star who has arrived in the city to shoot scenes for his new film.
But ‘Carmen’ is a familiar and popular text and we’d expect its themes to translate well to Bradford’s multicultural bustle. Preeya Kalidas (of ‘EastEnders’, ‘Bombay Dreams’ and ‘Four Lions’ fame) will play the lead, accompanied by Indian film actor Abhay Deol of the legendary Deol acting dynasty in the role of Bollywood star AD.
