Kenny Powers is not fucking out. Previously, writer and star Danny McBride had declared that ‘Eastbound & Down’ would only ever last three seasons and, with that third series ending with the fame-obsessed baseball player finally turning his back on the limelight and faking his own death so that he can run back to his childhood sweetheart, things felt pretty final.
Yet, somehow, it’s back for its fourth outing. Set a few years down the line, with Powers living a family life in North Carolina, you have to wonder whether this is going to rank alongside the Sex Pistols reunion in terms of uninspired cash-ins. Still, the show has barely put a foot wrong thus far, so we’ll give it the benefit of the doubt. As for HBO’s claim that this time it really is the last innings for Kenny Powers – let’s just wait and see, shall we?
