Porn on the Brain
Imagine if your first exposure to sex was via a website called Anally Ripped Whores. Probably not ideal, right? But with what journalist Martin Daubney describes as a ‘rolling buffet of depravity’ now a couple of clicks away on every smartphone, it’s something we’re all going to have to address. It’s a much more complex issue than this film has time to explore, touching on everything from freedom of information to gender politics to our doublespeak-addled, hypocritical media.

But Daubney gives it a go, meeting neuroscientists, youth workers and even a young porn addict who has to nip off for a wank while the cameras are rolling. Despite a partial early mea culpa, Daubney doesn’t fully address the elephant in the room: the matter of his former life as editor of Loaded. And inevitably ‘Porn on the Brain’ is inconclusive as no one has really got their heads around this issue yet. Even so, it feels like a sincere early contribution to a debate that’s sure to run and run.
