Heads up! We’re working hard to be accurate – but these are unusual times, so please always check before heading out.
‘She might be a clone or something!’ It’s not the most measured or compassionate reaction from Lena to the resurrection of her little sister. But then, how would you handle the sudden reappearance of a dead sibling? The confusion feels entirely apt – this is clearly a town haunted by its past and there are more returners for the baffled locals to contend with this week.
‘The Returned’ continues to confound and intrigue, although it plays a dangerous game with its pacing – how long can a drama remain understated before it becomes simply underwhelming? After all, the premise is sufficiently outlandish that meditative, sensitive emotional nuances have little resonance – this isn’t really a situation that has much to tell us about anything we might actually encounter. With this in mind, the apparent return of someone who, to put it mildly, wasn’t welcome in the first place can only be a good thing.
