Probably not one for the purists, this. But sod the purists; surely the Proms can afford at least one night where it tries to reach out to a different demographic group. Tonight’s performance from the Royal Albert Hall features Jacob Banks, Fazer from N-Dubz, Maverick Sabre, Wretch 32, Laura Mvula and grime vocalist Lady Leshurr.
They’ll be collaborating with the London Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Jules Buckley. It’s hard to second guess exactly what this performance will entail. But Fazer at least, has been subtly trailing his classical ambitions for some time; apparently he’s an accomplished pianist and will, at some stage, be making a BBC3 documentary in which he tries to bring classical stylings to the kids. Could be interesting.
