Time Out says

Late Pasadena literary icon Octavia E. Butler’s Kindred tells the story of a Black writer from 1970s L.A. who finds herself forcibly fluctuating between her own time and a pre-Civil War Maryland plantation. Now, the celebrated book is ready to make its debut as an FX series, and to celebrate you can visit a free gallery show inspired by it in West Adams. “Kindred: A Gallery Through Time” has brought together eight contemporary artists who explore Afrofuturism, duality, identity and time. In addition, Post & Beam has put together a display of historic cooking tools that speak to the origins of Southern cuisine (you can sample a Kindred-inspired menu at the restaurant from December 9 to 11). You’ll find everything on display at Band of Vices, a Black-owned gallery that’ll also be hosting live painting, a plant installation and a handbag pop-up—all from local Black creators.
