Going out to the movies just got a whole lot more interesting. If you thought 3D or even 4D was the greatest thing to hit the local theater, just wait until you experience ScreenX. The latest high-tech viewing format enables movies to be projected beyond the center screen and onto surrounding walls, making for a truly immersive experience. Imagine action-packed scenes and expansive, fictional landscapes stretching beyond what's in front of you and instead, into a 270-degree viewing format. Talk about engaging your audience.

According to Los Angeles Magazine, the product comes from Korean company CJ CGV and has been around since 2012, but it has only just recently come to the U.S. The ScreenX format is only available in three theaters across the nation: AMC Town Square 18 in Las Vegas, CGV Cinemas in Buena Park and CGV Cinemas in Koreatown

The L.A. theater, located at 621 South Western Avenue, is currently screening Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in ScreenX—an epic choice to say the least. Just think—Jack Sparrow's boat extends across the walls, making it feel like you're along for the ride; zombie pirates come running towards you at all angles and the waves of the ocean come crashing down on your left and right. Take a look at the trailer below to get a feel for the experience yourself.

While it's definitely worth seeing, note that the 270-degree viewing format isn't applicable to all scenes. You can bet it'll catch you by surprise when it comes into action. It has that King Kong vs. Jurassic Park vibe on the Universal Studios tour: an attraction which you shouldn't pass up. Will ScreenX spread to other theaters across L.A.? That information is still under wraps, but in the meantime, head to CGV Cinemas to experience it while you still can.
