Friday

We wish we could attend everything on Friday night, but sadly we're not Hermione Granger time travelers. That said, you can't go wrong with any of these four amazing events, starting with a 20th anniversary screening of Clueless. BuzzFeed, purveyors of all things '90s nostalgia, are inviting fans of the beloved teen movie to its Hollywood office for a free screening and Q&A with cast members Stacey Dash and Elisa Donovan.

Choose between a couple of book chats, starting with Aziz Ansari at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre. The comedian will discuss his new book, Modern Romance, which chronicles the difficulties of finding love in a texting-obsessed age—in other words, expect banter similar to his stand-up sets. Meanwhile at Skylight Books, USC Professor Josh Kun discusses his book To Live and Dine in LA (you can see the exhibit of the same name at the Central Library) with everybody's favorite hometown chef, Roy Choi.

Keep the night going at NerdMelt for another installment of Andy Kindler's Particular Show. The frustrated, self-defeated comedian is worth seeing in his own right, but Friday night's show has a can't-miss lineup with sets from Lauren Lapkus, Jimmy Pardo, Jon Daly, Joe Mande and more.

Saturday

Let your frustration tear through your vocal cords on Saturday as Machine Project hosts the first part of its Death Metal Vocals Workshop. Aerialist and heavy metal badass Lilia Bogoeva will coach participants through the basics of performing ear-piercing vocal techniques to work toward a sustained, pain-free scream.

Make your way into Little Tokyo for the second night of Step and Repeat. MOCA is celebrating LA's live performance community with appearances by poets, comedians, musicians, dancers and artists at the Geffen throughout the weekend.

Take the Gold Line to Memorial Park, where the Levitt Pavilion Pasadena continues its free summertime concert series. LA's own Mariachi Divas, the first Grammy-winning all-female mariachi band, take to the stage tonight. While you're hanging out in Pasadena, head down the block to One Colorado for a free outdoor screening of Juno.

Speaking of outdoor movies, pack a blanket tonight as Eat|See|Hear screens ¡Three Amigos!, Cinespia shows the double-feature Grindhouse, Street Food Cinema hosts both True Romance and The Wedding Singer, and Electric Dusk Drive-In screens Clue in a parking lot with a projector.

Sunday

As the temperature ticks back up today, spend the afternoon partying poolside—or at least pretending that you might actually take a dip. Steve Aoki's Dim Mak label holds its weekly Wavey Pool Party at the Hotel Figueroa while Skybar hosts the latest installment of Playa Escondida.

Celebrate Libros Schmibros' fifth birthday on Sunday with paletas, piñatas and, of course, books. The Boyle Heights lending library is giving out books for keeps with a $5 donation; that'll also fund your annual membership, which allows you to borrow up to three books at a time.

Afterwards, sample a selection of carbonated bubbly beverages at Around the World in 80 Sips. Highland Park's celebrated soda shop Galco's is bringing together bottles from Italy, France, England and more, all to fundraise for the Friends of the Southwest Museum Coalition.

If you'd rather wrap up your weekend with something to eat that's a bit more substantial than soda, head to the Wiltern for LA, Grow! This healthy food fundraiser brings together bites from POT, Gjelina and Café Gratitude along with music from old timey standby Triple Chicken Foot; stick around for a pop-up garden tour and a sit-down vegan dinner.
