If you’re looking for convenience without compromising quality, the airport-adjacent Embassy Suites at LAX scores points among the layover crowd for its attentive service and upscale amenities like an indoor pool, Jacuzzi, and comprehensive complimentary breakfast bar.

The vast majority of travelers book airport hotels for their location, but that doesn’t mean your accommodations can’t be upscale, too. The Embassy Suites at LAX are a solid mix of convenience and quality, with special attention placed on creating a sleek and comfortable environment. Rooms are structured around a modern, airy atrium where guests can chat, dine and recharge on low-slung leather couches. In the rooms themselves, the decor remains contemporary and unfussy; think abstract photography, streamlined furniture and granite wet bars. Suites offer private balconies in addition to more spacious accommodations. The neighborhood surrounding LAX mostly comprises of hotels and car rental facilities packed between residential neighborhoods, but there are a few gems nearby, including the hop-heavy El Segundo Brewing Company. Of course, it’s very possible to amuse yourself without leaving the Embassy: in addition to standards like TV and wifi, the hotel features an indoor pool, jacuzzi, and fitness center. As for dining, the complimentary breakfast bar is more solid than your average continental buffet in both quantity and quality, including pleasant upgrades like a DIY omelet bar.

Location: Located just half a mile from LAX with complimentary shuttle service, the Embassy Suites is supremely convenient for travelers. That being said, guests will be privy to the din of planes during their stay, and the neighborhood isn’t particularly walkable. If you plan on leaving the hotel, you’ll most likely want to take a short Uber to a hipper ‘hood.

Nearby:

El Segundo Brewing Co.: This craft taproom is a definite step up from airport bars. Pints tend to be hop-forward, so if you love an IPA, you’re in luck.

Murad Inclusive Health Spa: If you really need some R&R after that delayed flight, luxury beauty brand Murad’s South Bay Spa will mellow your vibes with acupressure, massages, facials and more.

Purple Orchid: This Main Street tiki bar has everything a dive bar should: neon signs, smoking locals and plenty of flair. Order an umbrella-accented mai tai, settle in among the bamboo accents and shrunken heads, and wait for your flight in style.

El Porto Beach: A short trip west will land you at one of L.A.’s famed beaches. It’s no Malibu, but it’s a surprisingly relaxing place to stroll the bike path, lounge in the sand and watch surfers catch their break.

Good for: While the hotel’s many amenities would appeal to tourists and families, the somewhat out-of- the-way location means the Embassy Suites are most suitable for business travelers, airport hotel convention attendees and those with early flights.

Amenities: Pool, hot tub, free wifi, room service, minibar, restaurant, bar, gym

Time Out tip: If you’re visiting near the holidays, make time in your layover for a stroll down Candy Cane Lane. Less than two blocks from the Embassy Suites, Arcadia Avenue is home to 26 houses that dedicate themselves to staging lights, sleighs, Santas, music, functioning miniature trains and more after 7pm during the holiday season. It’s enough to add some cheer to even the most stressful of holiday commutes.
