Time Out says

4 out of 5 stars

This 15-floor Sheraton, strategically positioned within walking distance of the bustling Los Angeles International Airport, provides worn-out commuters with two very important layover essentials: a welcoming resort pool and soundproofed rooms.

It doesn’t take much to cheer up a weary traveler; usually a clean bed will do the trick. But the Sheraton Gateway Los Angeles aims for more. The beds here are not only clean, they are downright heavenly. Each of the 802 guestrooms, including 102 suites, features Sheraton's signature 11.5-inch thick, high coil count, plush pillow top "Sweet Sleeper Bed.” The rooms, along with the entire hotel, have recently undergone a $13.5 million renovation. As a result, the digs are modern and sleek, with plenty of marble, brass accents and natural light. But the real reason to stay at this particular LAX-adjacent hotel is the pool. Surprisingly large, the deck is lined with new wicker lounge chairs, cabanas and tons of lush greenery. Best of all, it is quiet. Hard to believe you’re around the corner from an airport. That’s thanks to limited flyovers, which means sweeping city views from most of the guest rooms. Never has your layover Instagram story looked this good.

Location: Sheraton Gateway is located around the corner from the LAX. There’s a free airport shuttle, plus a $5 Ocean Express to Manhattan Beach, and some solid food options a short Uber or Lyft ride away.

Nearby:

Fork-In Aussie Pies: In need of some Australian comfort food? Take a quick 8-minute drive to this family-owned cafe for gourmet savory pies and organic Vittoria espresso coffee.

Mariscos El Guero Taco Truck & Seafood: A trip to Los Angeles isn’t complete without a fish burrito from this food truck, located 1.4 miles from the hotel.

Randy’s Donuts: Alleviate that sweet tooth with a visit to this Los Angeles food icon, just a ten-minute drive away.

SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa: Check this one off your L.A. sushi bucket list. Kazunori Nozawa delivers straightforward, no-nonsense fresh fish dishes. The closest location is Marina del Rey, about 11 minutes away, give or take traffic.

In-N-Out Burger: Find out what all the fuss is about; there’s one five minutes away by car. Opt for the animal style fries.

Good for: Couples, singletons, families and anyone with an overnight layover or early morning flight at the Los Angeles International Airport. The rooms are spacious, pool is heated, and gym is open 24 hours. It’s a great way to recharge before tackling the agony that is airport security.

Amenities: Pool, room service, restaurant, bar, gym, concierge

Time Out tip: Starwood Preferred Guest reward members should take advantage of the new Sheraton Club, which boasts panoramic views of LAX’s runways and offers continental breakfast, snacks and beverages, evening hors d’oeuvres, as well as a personalized concierge.
