Depop’s first IRL retail space offers so much more than shopping

Whenever we venture onto the strip of Sunset Boulevard that’s essentially the spine of Silver Lake, there seems to be another new space to explore—whether an Instagram-worthy coffee shop, an impeccably curated boutique or a cozy spot to score daily breakfast bites.

But anyone who’s cruised the 3500 block in recent weeks may have noticed something a little different in the works. A portion of the same structure that also houses the RETROSUPERFUTURE and Le Labo shops was painted red and emblazoned with “Depop,” the name of the popular social shopping app where you can sell your own stuff as well as see what those you admire are currently coveting. This begged the question, “Could it be?”

In fact, on March 22nd, the space was revealed to be the British company’s first-ever in-real-life retail location—but it’s also so much more. Anyone who steps into the conceptual shop will immediately notice the sparse merch. Yes, you can indeed make purchases from a selection of items here on Tuesdays and Thursdays through Sundays, but Depop’s L.A. address also acts as an office space for its local team members, a hub for creative workshops (for things like styling a shoot or building your brand) and a by-appointment photo studio.

The space itself was designed by SAVVY Studio, who also is credited for RETROSUPERFUTURE (the two companies share the same founder, Simon Beckerman). Besides the tight edit of clothing and accessories you’ll find from some of Depop’s most successful local sellers, those who stop in will discover contemporary furniture and fixtures in saturated primary colors, changeable lighting to set a desired mood and lots of happy plants throughout.

With so many things happening under one roof, Depop’s L.A. retail location (a NYC one is opening soon) is worth a visit. Pop in when you’re in the neighborhood picking up Buck Mason tees, a Clare V. clutch, or Aesop hand lotion and see what the weekly offerings are, both in terms of for-sale goods and cool, creative experiences. And yes, it’s also good for a photo op.

Depop is located at 3531 Sunset Blvd and open Tue, Thu–Sat 11am–7pm and Sun noon–7pm.
