Just in time for Halloween, the tale of literature's most iconic vampire is coming to the stage in Los Angeles, with a whole lot of whiskey and mayhem. The national immersive comedy phenomenon, The Drunk Shakespeare Society, is bringing its signature brand of alcohol-infused theater to Hollywood. Having already conquered audiences in New York, Chicago, Washington, D.C., Phoenix and Houston, the celebrated company is launching a multi-production residency at the legendary The Hotel Cafe.
And they are kicking things off with a bite: raise a glass to Drunk Dracula.
Running from September 11 through November 14, this limited engagement promises to reinvent Bram Stoker’s classic vampire tale into an unpredictable night of high-spirits improv and literary madness.

The wildly popular recipe that's made Drunk Shakespeare a nationwide hit remains delightfully intact with this latest production: One professional actor downs five shots of liquor before stepping onto the stage. A cast of completely sober actors scrambles to keep the plot on the rails as the booze takes effect. The result is a high-energy blend of classical performance, pop-culture riffs, audience interaction and total off-the-cuff comedy where no two nights are ever the same.
"Los Angeles has always felt like the natural next chapter for The Drunk Shakespeare Society. It's a city that embraces live entertainment, celebrates storytelling and isn't afraid to have a little fun," said David Hudson, CEO of Brass Jar Productions, who co-founded the society alongside Scott Griffin in 2014. "We couldn't think of a better way to make our debut than with Drunk Dracula during spooky season."
Self-described as a “drinking club with a Shakespeare problem,” the company has spent more than twelve years expanding its lens beyond the Bard to take on classic literature across the canon.
