For Tokyo food obsessives, scoring a seat at Tonkatsu Narikura is a culinary triumph. Holding a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a stellar 4.24 rating on Tabelog, Chef Seizo Mitani’s legendary spot is one of Tokyo's toughest reservations to land. But on Sunday, July 19 and Monday, July 20, Los Angeles foodies can get a taste of the mastery without booking a flight.

For one day only at each location, the Brothers Sushi in Culver City and Santa Monica is hosting Chef Mitani for an exclusive, cross-Pacific collaboration alongside chef-owner Mark Okuda. Together, they are serving an intimate, six-course experience centered around Narikura's world-famous "blonde" tonkatsu.

Unlike the deeply fried, heavy golden cutlets most diners are familiar with, Chef Mitani utilizes a signature low-and-slow cooking technique.

"His slow-cooking technique is incredible—it almost tastes like the pork has been sous vide," says Chef Mark, who affectionately refers to Mitani as the "Richard Gere of Japan."

The result is impossibly juicy pork encased in a feather-light, airy panko crust that stays crisp without a hint of grease. To ensure perfection, Chef Mitani is flying in his signature breadcrumbs straight from Japan, while sourcing premium heritage pork locally from California's acclaimed Peads & Barnetts.

Instead of drowning the meat in heavy sauces, Narikura’s philosophy is all about minimalism. "He was actually the first chef to introduce me to eating tonkatsu with just salt, and it completely changed the way I think about the dish," Chef Mark shares.

This rare culinary event includes both lunch and dinner seatings, offering a masterclass in texture and flavor that is almost never found outside of Japan. Reservations are available on Tock for both the Santa Monica and Culver City meals, but the word is out, and spots are going fast.
