An icon is back on Abbot Kinney. The Tasting Kitchen officially reopens today, marking the highly anticipated return of one of Venice’s most defining neighborhood institutions. Back under the direction of Chef Casey Lane—who first led the restaurant to acclaim in 2009—the revival promises to blend chic, bohemian vibes with a refined, modern energy.

Lane's handwritten, ingredient-driven menus captivated Los Angeles right from the start, earning praise from the legendary Jonathan Gold and four consecutive James Beard semifinalist nods. Today, Lane revives that same serious technique and relaxed delivery, with a few tweaks. The new menu is still deeply ingredient-driven, and it includes both longtime favorites like mackerel and pastas plus new offerings centered on live-fire cooking. A new dual format features a curated tasting menu alongside a flexible à la carte option.

Complementing the kitchen is a stellar bar program led by Blake Antrobus, an alum of Monsieur Dior by Dominique Crenn and the Michelin-awarded team at Manzke. Antrobus’ seasonal cocktails are designed to echo Lane’s culinary philosophy, meaning peak-season produce showcased in drinks like a clarified take on the Long Island Iced Tea, as well as the "Longshanks"—an homage to the restaurant's bygone, beloved "Braveheart" cocktail. The bar returns as the centerpiece of the restaurant, bringing an upbeat vibe and keeping plenty of seats open for walk-ins.

The space has been reimagined by Matt Winter of M Winter Design. Utilizing hand-troweled plaster, antique reclaimed marble and vintage pieces, the design is rustic, soulful and timeless. And yes, the restaurant's iconic, original olive tree was carefully salvaged and retained, serving as a living bridge between the restaurant's storied past and its vibrant future.
