Blue Star Donuts, Portland's beloved donut shop, has set up a brick and mortar in Venice, bringing it's creative flavors like blueberry bourbon basil, hard apple cider fritters and piña colada to the westside. LA-specific flavors will soon be sold: strawberry shortcake, grenache ganache and mimosa, because we all know how much Angelenos love boozy brunching. Blue Star's airy, 1,000-square-foot space also serves Stumptown Roasters coffee and cold brew for prime donut dunking.

This place does some super interesting flavours of donut.

I tried quite a few and by far my favourite was the orange and olive oil flavour. I advise to be careful between which ones are labeled donuts and which are labeled with 'cake' - the cake ones are much more dense and I personally don't like as much as the donuts.

Biggest disappointment was the bacon glazed one - it was no where near as nice as it looked. Bacon was chewy and the flavours didn't compliment each other well.

This place will turn you into a HUGE fan of doughnuts in zero time!

Their consistency is perfect, the dough never too moist nor too dry, the pairings are absolutely impressive and they are  always at their freshest!

I had the passion fruit-cayenne and the pink-rosé ones, and they were bot a feast of unique flavors that blended marvelously with the soft, consistent dough.

Will definitely go back for more, this place is a dream!

During the past couple of years, we've been lucky to enjoy many culinary treasures imported from Portland, Oregon. One of the great options is Blue Star Doughnuts.

The creators of this brilliant donut shop developed a brioche dough recipe that came from their Grandmother. They also float the donuts in oil, vs. deep frying them. Many of the glazes have a Greek yogurt base with organic fruits. What really stood out to me with these donuts, besides their flaky and buttery insides is that the flavors are decidedly more "adult". Nothing is cloyingly sweet.

My favorite that I've tasted is the Old Fashioned Buttermilk. Among the glazed, raised donuts, the O.G. flavor is made with the same dough. The crunchy exterior, perfectly flavored glaze and buttery interior just evoke the ideal old fashioned that resides in your imagination. Except it's real.

Last time I enjoyed this flavor, it came out warm. It almost made me melt, enjoying how perfect it was.
