Bob's Coffee and Donuts

A trip to the Original Farmers Market wouldn't be complete without a stop at Bob's, which has been churning out freshly made doughtnuts since 1947. The cash-only stall offers cake and yeast rounds in all flavors but the perennial favorite is the classic glazed.

Each time I am at the Farmer's Market, I stop by at Bob's Donuts and Coffee to see if they have my favorite - the New Orleans Beignet. This classic establishment definitely has a lot of great old school choices, particularly their yeast raised glazed and the cake donut with cinnamon sugar sprinkled on.

The beignets amaze me because I never perceived this type of donut as something that can be eaten any way other than made to order. Bob's version, however, can be eaten any way and hold up just fine after reaching room temperature. The visible layers inside are impossibly light and buttery. And I appreciate the fact that the dough is not too heavily sweetened, since the whole thing gets dusted with powdered sugar in the traditional style.

They sell out very fast so it's worth popping in and checking until you are lucky enough to grab them off the shelves.
