With a history that begins in a small Tennessee town, Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken has been feeding Americans with their hot and spicey fried chicken for 60 years. The southern soul food joint has remained tried and true to its humble beginnings and traditional but top secret, original recipe. Choose from individual pieces or go for one of their "snacks"—2-20 pieces with white bread—or platters. Sides include baked beans, mac and cheese, seasoned fries, coleslaw and more, and you'll definitely want to splurge on a dessert. We're thinking the chess pie is a killer way to end your Gus's experience.

Upon driving around town, I noticed a new Gus' World Famous Fried Chicken in Burbank, which quietly opened. It might have been a soft opening because there were not the crowds inside that I was expecting.

Tennessee style hot chicken has definitely been the rage in L.A. lately. This place serves one level of spicy which is doable for most people inclined toward spicy fried chicken.

The pieces are on the smaller side, which I prefer, since they pack more flavor. I expected a bit warmer temperature and more crunch, but overall it was quite solid as far as fried chicken goes. It was served with slices of white bread. I enjoyed the mac and cheese side dish. It was not too thick and the ingredients tasted like real cheese. The top was sprinkled with more of that chili powder which added a nice touch to the creaminess.
