As a long-standing Kogi/Roy Choi aficionado, it was safe to predict I'd be one of the first in line at the soft opening of Kogi Taqueria on April 19th. Although I wasn't awaiting any particular culinary surprises, a few post-work Kogi tacos two blocks from my Palms apartment will always be an exciting endeavor. In the past, my go-to order was the Kogi Sliders, which, let me tell you, are nothing short of ridiculous. There’s some sort of crack sauce these messy, savory puppies are slathered in and I’m still waiting for Roy to bottle and sell it to me on the down-low. At the Taqueria’s opening, I decided to switch it up and try short rib, chicken, and calamari tacos. Warning: the calamari is not fried so if you’re not an adventurous eater I wouldn’t recommend hopping on this. Otherwise, the tacos are as equally mouthwatering as the sliders. If you are in west LA, Kogi’s first brick and mortar is easy to get to – just off the 10 on Overland; but a tip: park on the street as the parking lot is a tight squeeze! Gone are the days of seeking out the truck; Go try one of everything.
