This stylish boutique hotel restaurant takes over Tart inside the old Farmer’s Daughter, bringing Ricardo Zarate’s Peruvian-inspired L.A. cuisine to a beautifully redesigned ground floor patio and lounge. True to its name, the dinner menu at Short Stories might be brief, but each dish reads as a moving, flavorful vignette of color and fresh produce. Standouts include the media luna tacos—a tiger prawn-stuffed tribute to Mariscos Jaliscos’ shrimp tacos—and the sizzling arroz con pollo, a hot stone dish of cilantro rice, grilled chicken and huancaina sauce built for two. Later this month, expect the return of brunch at Short Stories, whose secret garden-like space is already drawing a fairly sceney crowd on weekends.
