Marta Teegan brings her green thumb—the master gardener is the author of Homegrown: A Growing Guide for Creating a Cook's Garden—and kitchen experience to the Echo Park storefront. While the name suggests a collection of titles for foodies—yes, there are cookbooks for sale—the main draw is the impeccably stocked local produce in the peak of its season and ready-to-eat ripe. There's also dry gourmet goods, breads from Downtown's Bread Lounge and housemade sandwiches and pastries from elegant—we prefer the canelés—to rustic. The killer Meyer lemon cake is not to be missed.

This sweet little market shop offers fresh, local produce—at a premium. It's the sort of place you come when you have the luxury to spend extra money on super fancy veggies, cheeses, yoghurts (with an h, in a mason jar) and more—and usually that means having the luxury of shopping in the middle of the day and spending hours cooking at night. It's totally aspirational and even if I only shop here every once in a while, I love the experience and always feel like I'm cooking and eating something extra special.
