Where does one begin with Erewhon? Known for its expensive groceries and high-quality deli counter, this organic supermarket sells a range of organic produce, prepared foods, snacks, wellness products and other pricey, typically sustainably made goods. If you're loyal to a particular health food, vegan or gluten free brand, chances are good that Erewhon carries it—along with five other brands you've never heard of. Oddly enough, however, you'd be hard pressed to find good ol' roasted peanuts here, though you will find deep orange, omega 3-rich Happy Eggs, several kinds of hangover and detox supplements, and every functional-slash-adaptogenic beverage under the sun.
Their Venice location, located at the westernmost end of Abbot Kinney, offers a charming, plant-lined patio for those eating on-site, as well as additional bench seating at its small parking lot's sidewalk edge. Among its prepared foods, we're partial to the rainbow fish egg-colored brown rice sushi and its simple antioxidant salad full of arugula, blueberries and walnuts. Its deli counter offers health-conscious food at its finest, and at prices comparable to Sweetgreen and other fast-casual restaurants.
