Looking to add some friendly scrimmages to your routine? If intense contact sports aren’t your speed, these laid-back leagues may be a better fit—and a surprisingly easy way to make new friends. Discover your hidden athleticism with these unusual intramural sports in Los Angeles, scattered across parks and facilities throughout the city.

If rocking out to loud music and throwing balls at people sounds like a fun weeknight activity, this coed league was made for you. Take it back to high-school gym class, except this time with a livelier competitive spirit, soft-rubber, no-sting balls, silly outfits and postmatch bar outings. Join either the advanced or the all-skill-level league.

West Hollywood Park. Tue, Thu at 7:30pm; $80.

Do as Winter Olympians do as you learn how to sweep the ice and guide the stones down the sheet closest to the button. (And if none of that makes sense to you, you’ll also learn all the fancy curling jargon.) Every ability level is welcome to join; however, you’re required to take at least one entry-level curling class there before signing up.

Temporarily closed as the league searches for a new venue and expects to reopen in 2023.

Together with a team of up to 10 players, you can compete in a friendly, lighthearted game of coed kickball, a hybrid of soccer and baseball. Each game is followed by a party at a local bar, where you’ll enjoy specials exclusive to “Zoggers.” Look for a trio of local leagues: a weeknight one in Hollywood and weeknight and Sunday meets in Venice.

Various locations, dates and times; registration $115.

Sure, you’ve thrown a Frisbee or two to a dog at the park, but have you ever played a competitive game of Ultimate Frisbee? Part soccer, part basketball and part football, this hybrid sport fuses the three concepts for a unique pastime that involves two end zones, teams of seven people and the titular disc. To score, complete the Frisbee pass in the end zone. Players can join at any skill level and choose between seasonal leagues, tournaments and pickup games.

Various locations, dates and times; league registration $90.

It’s not just (though still mostly) for grandparents: Ditch the clownish rental shoes and take your bowling skills outdoors to a manicured patch of grass. People of all familiarity levels are welcome to get in on the lawn-bowling action, with lessons, social events and tournaments throughout the year.

Douglas Park, Santa Monica. Various dates and times; beginner’s special $20.
