The Red, White & Blue BBQ was a fun event and I enjoyed that it was held in an outdoor space (at START LA). Totally matched the July 4th/summer BBQ theme.

The DJ & photo book always adds a bit of extra fun to the event. I do wish there were more food vendors (there was really only 4 actual BBQ restaurants featured, the rest being dessert vendors) and places for people to sit. One note on Lucille’s – the chicken was bloody, pink and totally undercooked – scary! But that was overshadowed by all the other good food. Gus’s spicy fried chicken wings & the brisket grilled cheese from Cheezus was bomb. Really glad I got to try both.

This event was a great way to spend an afternoon during the long holiday weekend. The vendors were friendly and very generous, with some offering larger portions and more tastes than expected (particularly the folks from Sprinkles & Lucille's- thanks!). I was especially excited to see Gus's Famous Fried Chicken in attendance as I've been meaning to try their food for quite some time. Overall, the BBQ was tasty, there were plenty of desserts, solid options for wine and beer, and the photo/gif booth was a fun thing to play around with. If I had one note of constructive criticism, it would be that I'd like to see more BBQ vendors in attendance. At the Grilled Cheese event & the dessert event, it felt like there were a handful of more vendors specializing in the cuisine. Would have been great to see some additional BBQ vendors from the area. But overall, still enjoyed the event and left full and happy.
