I checked out this newly renovated Montreal Golden Mile hotel — here’s why it’s one of the city’s most luxurious stays yet

An exclusive first look at the Sofitel Montréal Golden Mile's redesigned spaces carried out in collaboration with 2pir Design.

I’m in the lobby of this boldly redesigned Downtown Montreal hotel, gazing up at a striking ceiling sculpture that captures the graceful motion of birds in mid-flight.

In a daring collaboration with internationally acclaimed studio 2pir Design, Sofitel Montréal Golden Mile has emerged from a bold top-to-bottom transformation that redefines what French luxury means in 2025.

The result? A complete reimagining of the hotel experience, where heritage meets haute design with a touch of Parisian whimsy.

Located in the heart of Downtown, a few blocks from the Montreal Eaton Centre, McGill University, some of the city's best museums and Time Out Market Montréal, the Sofitel Montréal Golden Mile sits at the base of Mont Royal—steps from Plateau Mont Royal (recently ranked one of the coolest neighbourhoods in the world).

Drawing inspiration from the intimacy and elegance of a Parisian maison, the new interior spaces flow with quiet confidence, from the dramatic, sculptural foyer — anchored by a metallic ribbon wall and teal light installation — to greenhouse-inspired salons, art-filled living spaces, and intimate dining rooms designed for lingering.

The experience begins in a statement-making lobby and foyer that sets the tone for the hotel’s new identity.

Picture a sweeping metallic wall that catches the light like modern art, guiding guests into a serene Living Area & Library, with bespoke furnishings and suspended sculptures.

At the heart of the hotel’s social life is the new NINI Salon à Cocktail, a glamorous, rosé-hued bar that shifts seamlessly from daytime aperitifs to late-night rendezvous.

The adjacent Renoir Restaurant feels like a stage for contemporary French gastronomy: its garden-like Sunroom channels the romance of a hidden courtyard, while the Dining Room’s mirrored bronze ceiling and delicate detailing capture the essence of French refinement.

Time Out Tip: Solo travellers should book the chef’s table, where you can dine at the pass and chat with the kitchen staff.

The newly redesigned rooms and suites are where design meets comfort (sign me us up for the sleep menu).

Soft palettes are punctuated by jewel-like accents, while curated artworks and tactile finishes add layers of texture.

Even the Fitness Centre reflects the hotel’s new ethos: warm woods, copper accents, and tailored French detailing create an atmosphere that’s as inviting as it is functional, complete with a tranquil new yoga room.

Meanwhile, the meeting and event spaces — refreshed with custom furnishings and dramatic new finishes — are crowned by the hotel’s iconic stained-glass mosaic by Montreal-Romanian artists Titu Dragutescu and Nicolae Moldovanu, relocated from the lobby to serve as a striking artistic centrepiece.
