A debut solo exhibition from French artist Parme Marin—featuring new works that utilize everything from paint and textiles to hair and wood “to challenge notions of canonical fine art, femininity, and the body”—is coming to Chinatown Soup Gallery from Tuesday, May 7 through Sunday, May 19. The mixed-media works combine painting and sculpture, which convey the “feeling pulled, plucked, squeezed, and tucked” and tap into the artist’s personal journey through motherhood.
“I use a variety of often unexpected materials to create striking material juxtapositions and share my story through an artistic lens,” Marin said in a press release. “My intention for this series is to inspire conversation and thoughtful analysis of mothers who feel stuck in the 'mother role'–whether due to societal pressure or instincts–and their struggle to find balance.”
The show is on view from May 7-19.
