Chinatown's Lunar New Year celebrations serve as the inspiration of this captivating black-and-white film photography exhibition by Edward Cheng.

Lower Manhattan’s iconic Lunar New Year celebrations serve as the inspiration of this captivating black-and-white film photography exhibition by Edward Cheng. Presented by Think!Chinatown, the solo show, titled "Walking with Lions and Other Chinatown New Year Traditions 伴獅巡埠-過年習俗," documents the rituals and historic traditions of the ever-resilient neighborhood and its diasporic community through the artist’s 35mm, medium format camera.

The exhibit—which also includes guest artist Warren King's "Lion Dancer, 2024," a sculptural piece inspired by the red lacquer carvings of the Ming and Qing dynasties—runs through February 25, but if you head over on February 1, you can take in an intimate discussion with Cheng himself.
