Shakespeare in the Park; Delacorte Theater
Would you see Shakespeare in the park? Would you see Shakespeare on a lark? Would you enjoy a good King Lear? Would you enjoy it in your ear? Wait, this has nothing to do with Dr Seuss.

Flicks on the Beach: American Hustle; Coney Island Beach
Where do bell-bottoms, comb overs and con artists rule the land? No, not your bedroom. American Hustle, that's where. The best bit about this screening being at a beach is you get to come in your swimsuit, which is basically just socially acceptable underwear.

Comedy at the Grocery; Arlene's Grocery
Eggs…milk…laughter. Arlene's Grocery isn't actually a grocery store but a venue. We had you going there for a second, didn't we folks?

HBO Bryant Park Summer Film Festival Presents The Karate Kid; Bryant Park
Mr. Miyagi gives us a refresher on the correct way to wax on and wax off in The Karate Kid smack-dab in the middle of Bryant Park.

Ha! The Musical; Stage 72
Can't decide between stand-up or musicals? Do both! This show, directed by Lion King helmer Darren Katz, features stand-ups like Big Jay Oakerson, Kevin Farley, Bill Dawes and Christian Finnegan. All comics will do stand up as well as a song and dance number. Basically, it's the weirdest hybrid since the cronut, so pay someone to stand on line for you now.

Stargazing on the Highline; The High Line
This dreamy affair lets you get astronaut-worthy view of the stars from high-powered telescopes, and the Amateur Astronomer Association will be there to help you find out what you're looking at.

8th Annual Welcome to the Boog City Festival; Unnameable Books
Local literary magazine Boog City is celebrating 23 years of existence with a poetry, music and theater jamboree for literary nerds everywhere. Hey, we here at TONY love a good Boog-y.

Harlem Week; various locations
Like Shark Week, but with Harlem.

National Oyster Day Celebration; Grand Central Oyster Bar
A day of shucking demonstrations, raffles for pearl necklaces, and of course oysters to slurp. Shuck yeah!

Word for Word Poetry Cave Canem; Bryant Park Reading Room
Poetry gets a bad rap as pretentious and flowery, but in reality it can be truly awe-inspiring…not to mention community strengthening. Word for Word turns words into tuning forks for our hearts making this outdoor poetry show an unforgettable experience.

Gilbert Gottfried; The Bell House
The dulcet tones of noted warbler Gilbert Gottfried fill the rafters of Brooklyn's Bell House as he performs his delicate and nuanced comedy stylings.

Aug 6

John Legend; Barclays Center
John Legend—who will forever have a place in our hearts for his performance in a bat mitzvah scene on Curb Your Enthusiasm—gives vintage soul a respectful tweak.

Arrested Development Bingo; Videology
While watching the cult hit, keep an eye out for banana stand cameos and listen for lines like "no touching" and you just might win at bingo.

FKA twigs; Webster Hall
The 'FKA' means 'formerly known as.' Fun fact: The songstress was "formerly known as" Jessie J's background dancer before she went off to do her own thing.

Spectrum Dance Theater + Sidra Bell Dance NY; Central Park
It's an outdoor performance as a part of 2014 SummerStage.

Gandhi, Is That You?; Lucky Jack's
Gandhi was a great practical joker who often would hide behind things and jump out at you, apparently. Hosts Brendan Fitzgibbons and Lance Weiss must have known that when they named this stand-up show.

Sunset Wednesday; Wave Hill
Take a guided tour of the gardens and hear R&B from Bronx group Jacqueline Flowers Quintet during Wave Hill's extended hours.

Aug 7

Sun Ra Arkestra; Robert F. Wagner Park
Who names their baby "Sun?" We joke. Sun Ra was a legendary and fairly controversial jazz musician mainly because how fantastically weird his music was. He was such an influence that his "Arkestra" still performs today, and to say their show will be interesting is an understatement.

Giglio Society of East Harlem Saint Antonio Feast; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church
A 'giglio' is a giant paper-mache saint. Not the Ben Affleck / J-Lo movie. The East Harlem church has a whole feast around it. Yay.

FLOW.14 Opening; Randall's Island
Graphic design and web design aficionados hang out outside on an island and talk about kerning or whatever they get off on these days, those crazy kids.

Battle of the Burger; South Street Seaport
Taste your way through the best burgers in New York at this cook-off featuring free beer from Amstel Light™. Thanks, Amstel Light™!

Intrepid Summer Movie Series: Spaceballs; Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
"May the Shwartz be with you," (and also with you) during this outdoor screening of the science-fiction parody.

The Weeklings Live; Housing Works Bookstore Live
The Weeklings, an online magazine for "rogue commentary," brings together its editors and special guests for a reading.
