A high-end dine-in movie theater is opening in Jersey today

New Yorkers are pampered with options for in-theater dining, from Nitehawk Cinema to Bushwick newbie Syndicated and the upcoming NYC outpost of Alamo Drafthouse. Now New Jersey is following suit. Opening today in Fort Lee, NJ, Hamid Hashemi's dine-in theater, iPic Hudson Lights, promises a seamless moviegoing process, with waiters serving ritzy takes on American comfort food.

The menu by chef Sherry Yard, frequently star-studded with limited-time contributions from celebrity chefs like Elizabeth Falkner and Jet Tila, serves up finer fare than your average stale popcorn or Raisinets (though some of the classics are still available, for nostalgia's sake.) Highlights include a quinoa-and-spinach dip, grilled lemon-chicken satay and a ratatouille pizza. For those who want the full-on treatment with a post-film meal, you can make reservations at Yard's sit-down restaurant, City Perch, atop the theater.

The 528-seat theater spans eight screens, with three different seating options per screen, with plushness varying by price. Premium gets you non-reclining full leather cushions with airline tray tables; the chaise option features tilted front-row couches for two, outfitted with swiveling oval tables; and premium-plus watchers get private twin- and triple-seat pods with fully reclining seats, swiveling tables, waiter service at the touch of a button and unlimited popcorn. And it's all highly futuristic to boot: Transactions are made ahead of time via the theater's app, so it's a painless cashless, cardless process, and there's no queue to bother with. Our Jersey brethren should be proud.
