A weeklong jazz festival hits Brooklyn this fall

If Celebrate Brooklyn! has taught us anything, it's that BRIC sure knows how to throw a concert. Thankfully, the organization has expanded its music programming the past couple years with BRIC Jazzfest. The relatively new event—which hopes to offer a "multidisciplinary and inclusive" expansion of Brooklyn's lacking jazz infrastructure—just announced the lineup for its third edition, and it's a doozy.

This year, the fest will take place over the week of October 14–21 and feature a mix of film, dance, panel discussion and student workshops, culminating with a three-day concert marathon. Expect a mix of internationally renowned talent and local acts: Highlights include James Brown–associated saxist Maceo Parker, cosmically psychedelic collective the Sun Ra Arkestra under the direction of Marshall Allen, contemporary visionary Vijay Iyer and GoGo Penguin performing a new score to the visual film epic Koyaanisqatsi. And make sure to keep an eye out for the fest's smattering of films, dance classes and panel discussions.
