An Amazon store is coming to Hudson Yards

If two-hour same-day delivery is too long for you to wait, soon you can get instant gratification at an Amazon store in Hudson Yards. Yes, the website is opening a real live store in a building, scheduled to open by the beginning of 2019. (That’s way ahead of Hudson Yards’ anticipated 2024 completion date.)

It will be the very first East Coast store for Amazon, and it will join the new development’s offices for Coach, a three-story Neiman Marcus and even the supposed Eiffel Tower of NYC.

Instead of jamming everything from appliances to gourmet food to vinyl into a warehouse, the new location will most likely focus on books, e-readers and tablets. A similar one opened in Seattle in 2015, selling books organized by their star ratings at the exact same price they are on the site. It could be a blow to the city’s best bookstores that aren’t chains, but if the hellish Hudson Yards Station is any indication, they don’t have anything to worry about.

It’s not quite as exciting as Amazon’s one-hour alcohol delivery or free food delivery in Manhattan, but any excuse for more shopping in NYC works for us.
