Baked by Melissa is giving away 100,000 free cupcakes today at noon

Mini-cupcake spot Baked By Melissa is giving out 100,000 free bite-sized cakes today starting at noon. To promote #SideWithLove, an initiative to "spread love and positivity throughout the nation," the shop is letting customers (who have an account) send a box of 25 original flavors to someone special (or, you know, yourself) through its online store.

The initiative isn't the first time that the local chain has doled out gratis desserts. In 2014, the store said goodbye to its Soho window by giving away free cupcakes, and in 2015 they gave away 40,000 free cupcakes while constructing a record-setting peace sign made of the treats to commemorate John Lennon's 75th birthday.

It's going to be a sweet, sweet Thursday, New York.
