Just when you think you’ve seen most of New York City, it can still manage to surprise you.

Time Out New York teamed up with Inception, a creator of immersive VR entertainment, to produce incredible 360-degree videos and tours of some of New York City’s most iconic institutions.

Now, you can take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Guggenheim with an expert tour guide (and learn why New Yorkers hated the architectural marvel at first). Travel through the decades in Times Square to see a billboard that actually blew smoke rings, and find out the truth behind that iconic kissing photo. And discover the secrets of Grand Central Terminal—did you know there are secrets written on the ceiling?

You can check out the videos below or on our virtual reality home page, but to get the full VR experience, head over to Inception, download the app and view the video on your VR device at home. And stay tuned for more Time Out VR experiences in the future!

Time hop in Times Square

Times Square hasn’t always been glittering billboards and retailers as far as the eye can see. The popular gathering spot has been through a lot over the years! Watch this to learn about an epic blizzard, a smoking billboard and that iconic kissing photo.
