McSorley’s has been closed by the health department

As if Election Week wasn't emotional enough for the whole country, one of America's oldest and most beloved pubs was temporarily closed by the Department of Health yesterday.

McSorley's Old Ale House, which has resided on Seventh Street in the East Village for 162 years, seemingly did not pass an inspection by the DOH on November 9th and, although at press time no specific citations have been laid out as reason for the shuttering, Gothamist touts to "rat activity."

Ironically, during a DOH inspection this past May, the Irish tavern passed with flying colors. Here's hoping it reopens soon—lord knows, we could all use a drink.
