New coffee shop pop-up Aridoamerica Winter Plan, found in the Museo de Los Sures gallery in Williamsburg, is cash optional as a way to take the focus off material objects and put it on artistry. If you don’t want to pay for your organic coffee with an optional cash donation, you can opt to exchange something like buttons or jewelry instead. Or you could play the shop’s board game, Patolli, and win a unique kind of currency that’s only valid in the shop.

Since the shop also receives funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, all it really needs to stay in business is a quarter per cup. You have to have something worth that much rattling around in your bag to trade in, right?
