Say it ain’t so! We waited for what felt like an eternity for Spa Castle Premier 57 to open in Manhattan (especially after seeing the stunning photos). And last month, we were thrilled when the establishment first opened. But yesterday, DNAinfo reported that the shopping-mall-sized water playground has been shut down by the New York City Health Department, indefinitely.

"We closed Spa Castle in Manhattan because they were found to be operating without a permit or an approved safety plan," a spokeswoman told the publication, "which is required for all bathing establishments in New York City.

Apparently, signs of spa’s impending doom were first spotted back in November when the co-op board of Spa Castle’s 115 E 57th Street building sued to prevent the sanctuary from opening, claiming it would “block air and sunlight from the tenants and expose them to noise and nudity. “

It’s still unclear what this means for the midtown east location overall, but in the meantime, we’ll just have to turn to another one of NYC's best spas for pampering until further notice.
