It's back.

With an almost-tropical Christmas and record-breaking high temperatures during the month of December, we all thought we were in for a mild winter this year. We were wrong. Dead wrong.

Like a jealous ex that always turns up at the worst possible moment, the Polar Vortex is swooping into town just in time to ruin your Valentine's Day. Welcome back, Vortex. You look well.

The coldest air of the winter is expected to be sent southward by the Vortex over the next few days. Once it reaches New York, the frigid blast could result in record low temperatures. Just how cold are we talking? After climbing to a practically balmy 38 degrees later today, the temperatures will start dropping faster than Ben Carson’s poll numbers. Temperatures Friday and Saturday morning will hover in the teens. Sunday morning could see temperatures as low as -5 degrees.

“It’ll be cool today, colder tomorrow and much colder on the weekend,” Jim Connolly of the National Weather Service, told the New York Times

Forget jewelry. The best Valentine’s Day gift you can buy this year is gloves.
