Ralph Lauren's New York Fashion Show features holograms—and is free in Central Park tonight

Last night in Central Park, Ralph Lauren presented his NYFW presentation for his Polo for Women line. But instead of a typical runway situation, the clothes were presented via gigantic holograms projected onto a mist of water over a pond near the park's Cherry Hill. 4-D models walked among shifting landscapes (like the Brooklyn Bridge, a NYC street) and at the end, a hologram of Ralph Lauren came out for his bow and a little dance. (Who says deceased music icons are the only ones who can get in on the hologram game?!?!?)

The event last night was a private affair, but it was so successful that the RL folks are doing it again tonight and this time everyone is invited. The light show begins at 9pm at Cherry Hill (use the park entrance at 72nd Street and Central Park West). We'll admit that at time the projects were a little blurry, so it wasn't always easy to see the details of the clothes, but it's still a cool event to witness. For the best views, stand in the middle of the hill or as close to the pond as you can get.

And remember, this isn't the only free Fashion Week event you can take part in.
