Fall will turn into our "Season of Love" when 5th Floor Theater Company brings Rent to Queen’s Secret Theatre, just months before the Tony-winning musical’s upcoming 20th anniversary. While it is highly unlikely that this modest revival will showcase the next Taye Diggs or Idina Menzel (yeah, those two nobodies were in the original 1996 cast), the soundtrack is just as catchy and delightful as it was back when you were obsessed in the '90s. Loosely based on Puccini's opera La Bohème, the Broadway hit follows a diverse group of broke, artsy friends living with HIV during the height of the AIDS crisis—so, there’s no way not to get a big case of the feels while watching it. The fact that the struggling, basically jobless, bohemian characters can all afford to live in the East Village without trust funds brings tears to our eyes just thinking about it.

The play runs from September 23 through 27. Fair warning: You may know every single word in "La Vie Bohème" and are capable of imitating all of the voices from the original soundtrack, but please leave the belting for the actors. Details here.
