Not only is this performance of the Nutcracker free, it’s also only one hour long! Arts Brookfield and the New York Theatre Ballet are collaborating on a rendition of the winter classic on December 2 and 3. There will be three performances, held at the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place. There’s updated choreography in a 1907 Art Nouveau style from NYTB’s Keith Michael, and you’ll see the classic scenes with the Mouse King, Clara and the Sugarplum Fairy set to Tchaikovsky’s original score.
Since it’s first come, first served, it’s recommended that you show up early—there will be ballerinas on hand to keep you company and pose on pointe for selfies. Don’t be surprised if you’re inspired to take your first dance classes afterward to try a pas de deux yourself.
